Original Illustration: “Lagoon” (2019)

$480.00

From May 23 to Jun 11 2019, I attended Kintai Arts Residence in the town of Kintai, Lithuania. In this coastal area of Lithuania, the enormous lagoon created by the Curonian Spit plays a pivotal role in the local industries, the landscape, leisure activities of residents and visitors, and the study of bird migration.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Curonian Lagoon was a busy place populated by fishing boats from the villages and towns situated along its coast. Each of these fishing boats had a main mast, on which a wooden carving of size 2 by 1 ft. is attached as a means of identification of the port to which the boat belonged. Inspired by that, I created this illustration combining the view of the lagoon from Kintai, and one of these old fishing boats, which no longer exist.
